Founder and Director of Animal
Ark, A Happy, Pet-Friendly Shelter Founded in 1977, Animal
Ark is a 501(c)3
non-profit Minnesota corporation.
At Animal Ark, you will not find
a spacious lobby or beautiful offices.
You will, however, find some of the
best animal housing available to homeless
pets in our community.
Animal Ark is unique among the animal
shelters in Minnesota. Though we are
small and have limited funds, we have
built and maintain the most elaborate
sheltering available for homeless dogs
and cats. Instead of small, cold, stainless
steel cages, cats are housed in large,
open rooms and comfy kitty apartments
that include exterior windows, cat trees
and other amenities.
Dogs are housed in spacious kennels,
the largest of which measure 9-feet
by 12-feet. Each dog is provided with
its own, soft, raised bed with blankets,
chew toys and treats. Large, outdoor
play yards are provided for our pooches.
Three times each day, dogs are taken
out for potty breaks and play with other
dogs. In the heat of summer, kiddy pools
and water misting systems provide the
dogs with cool comfort. Additionally,
dogs are walked each day by a group
of dedicated volunteers.
Located in the historic city of Hastings,
Animal Ark is an easy, 30-minute drive
from either St. Paul or Minneapolis.
The address for the Animal
Ark is Shelter 2600 Industrial Court, Hastings, MN 55033.

The
Home for Life Mission:
Home For Life® was organized to establish
a network of sanctuaries across the
country for the lifetime care and sheltering
of dogs and cats who, while still able
to lead a quality life, are unable to
find homes due to old age, chronic illness,
handicaps, temperament issues or other
factors. Individual Home For Life® sanctuaries
will be scaled appropriately so as to
promote maximum human contact and quality
of life for each resident animal. The
Home For Life® model will stand as a
paradigm for the lifetime care of special
needs dogs and cats, and for the humane
treatment of animals and all living
things.
Through the example Home For Life®
sanctuary provides, we hope to discourage
an acceptance of euthanasia of animals
who could otherwise live a quality life,
and to promote discussion and consideration
of how the treatment of animals reflects
and affects our society's treatment
of people, especially our more vulnerable
members. Just as apathy can become a
way of life, so can empathy. At Home
For Life®, we believe that our lives
are made richer to the extent that we
are able to see and appreciate the value
of other living things.
After
over a year of searching for just the
right property, Home For Life® relocated
In 1999 to over 40 picturesque acres
on the Apple River near Star Prairie,
Wisconsin. The sanctuary is the permanent
home to about 130 cats and 50 dogs who,
because of age, disability, illness
or temperament issues, have not had
a chance to be adopted through a conventional
shelter or rescue organization. At Home
For Life®, these animals enjoy loving
care for as long as they may live. Our
goal is that this new facility will
become the prototype for a network of
Home For Life® sanctuaries across the
country.
The
new, panoramic prairie setting in Star
Prairie provides commodious accommodations,
featuring indoor/ outdoor enclosures
for both dogs and cats. The state of
the art facility includes its own grooming
salon; a kitchen for food preparation
with a sanitary, sterilizing unit for
washing the animals' dishes; a laundry
room with a commercial washer and dryer;
and plenty of storage for animal food
and supplies.
