NATURE SPEAKS By
Dorothy M. Weiss
The other day as my husband,
Monroe, and I strolled along the shores of the Banana River, in Merritt Island, Florida, two
dolphins suddenly appeared, swam closer, and performed a "water
ballet." This was just for us, or so it seemed. Two pelicans
soared over their heads, mimicking the dolphin's movements by circling,
flipping, spiraling in the air, diving below the water, and re-surfacing.
Then, from out of nowhere, two baby manatees joined in this impromptu
dance, floating closer and closer to us. A man getting
ready to windsurf was also pleasantly surprised and amazed. He
told us these creatures usually stay farther out in the water.
We had gone to this place with
heavy hearts and minds that were numbed by the war and the extensive media coverage.
We were seeking a few moments of tranquility and found it at
Kelly Park, in Brevard County, an easy 45-minute drive from Orlando.
We heard the sounds of these creatures of nature, and they seemed to say to us: We know how you feel, but look at us.
We just keep moving, existing, surviving. We are also
in the hands of Divine Spirit. Don't give up!"
We heard their message and
returned home with our sense of harmony and balance restored. We were uplifted and
had our courage renewed by Nature's creatures dancing in the water.
If they can survive and thrive and dance to the rhythm of life,
we can too!
